How Juke Joint Foods, LLC became a part of my life

In 2007 I was introduced to Orcas Island as an employee of a painting company. Sometimes there would be days that we would go to lunch or breakfast in one of the local restaurants. We had gone to Vern’s Bayside Restaurant one day and it was extra special because it was stormy and quiet and beautiful. I had the thought then that if I ever had the opportunity to move to Orcas, I could work in this place.
We did move to Orcas, and I was hired at Vern’s Bayside. And that was when I met Chanda McKeaver. She was naturally easy to get along with and we had odd similarities. We saw the world much the same way and it felt like we had known each other forever. After a while working at Vern’s we both went our separate ways, still living and working in the same town but not actively getting together. When we did see each other it was always big hugs and a “where the heck have you been” kind of thing.
Well it was one of those times. My fiancé and I were at the Legion Hall and I saw Chanda. She was there and had brought some of her Juke Joint Foods dressings with her for a function. I couldn’t believe she was doing what I wanted to do back in April 2011. She was selling her homemade dressings, and I wanted in on it.
We met up at my place the next day and I asked Chanda to take me under her wing. She spoke to her financial counselor who said yes and that’s where the story begins. We are on this journey together and with the help from Chanda’s team players, we are growing in leaps and bounds very quickly.
So as the phrase we use says… “When it’s right, it’s easy!”
To all those who have encouraged me along the way, my sincerest gratitude for making a dream become reality!
